Black Bear Hunting
The
American black bear is the most common and smallest bear
species in North America. They grow to about 5 feet long
and can range in weight from 200 to 300 pounds, with some
weighing as much as 500 pounds. Not all black bears are
completely black, in fact they sport a large variety of
colors from chocolate, blond, cinnamon and even a blue.
The elusive blue bear (glacier bear) inhabits the mountains
of the St. Elias Range in southeastern Alaska.
Brown Bear Hunting
Brown
bears include the largest bears in the world, among them
are the Alaskan brown bears such as the Kodiak bear and
the Grizzly bear of western North America. Grizzlies grow
to about 8-9 feet long and weigh about 800 pounds. Alaskan
browns grow to about 9-10 feet long and can weigh as much
as 1700 pounds. Larger browns have been harvested. They
can vary in color from yellowish to almost black.
